It was as if the minds of people inside and outside the house were set upon by some spirit, and none of them had the heart to join battle.  With effort bestirring themselves, they tried to take up their bows and arrows, but the strength having gone out of their hands, they slumped over.  Among them, those stout of heart, with great effort tried to shoot, but their arrows flew off in other directions, so without fighting fiercely at all,
